ABOUT PROJECT

In 1914, in the centre of Lviv, a pharmacy called Mariacka first opened its doors. Its golden era began in 1919, when it was purchased by pharmacist Stepan Stensel. More than a century later, the space has been given a new life — now known as Symbol Stensel, a boutique of contemporary beauty. For over 100 years, the space has never changed its function. Today, instead of medicine jars, the shelves hold exclusive perfumes and rare creams.
Most of the historic furniture has been carefully restored. To highlight the displays, we added velvet backdrops inside the cabinets and warm lighting that makes the products glow. The main hall also received a completely new lighting system, so that every corner works for the story we wanted to tell.

A real challenge was the technical side of things — as you can see, there are no visible air conditioners or diffusers. We managed to hide them completely on the balcony of the mezzanine, keeping the space clean and uncluttered while ensuring perfect comfort.

The floor, which could not be saved, was remade in custom mosaic inspired by traditional British pubs — classic, timeless, and as if it had always been there.

At the centre of the hall stand two stunning new display islands. They look like they were cast from metal, almost futuristic, but their bionic shapes allow them to blend in naturally with the historic surroundings.

A few mirrors, vintage radiators, and a wide shopfront window bring all the details together. The result is a place where history is still present, but the pace of modern life is very much alive.
